Smoke Detectors
In TYS apartments, smoke detectors are part of the standard apartment equipment. Depending on the housing location, the apartment has either a mains-powered smoke detector or a battery-operated one. Mains-powered smoke detectors are connected to the electrical grid but also include a backup battery in case of power outages.
A functioning smoke detector is an essential part of fire safety in any apartment. Tenants are also responsible for ensuring fire safety and for regularly checking that the smoke detector is operational.
Our apartment inspector has tested the smoke detector during the move-in inspection. However, tenants are advised to test the detector themselves upon moving in by pressing the test button on the device. The detector is functioning correctly if it beeps.
Tenants must never remove the battery from the smoke detector or detach the smoke detector from its mounting. Tenants are also not allowed to change the battery themselves or perform any actions that could interfere with the smoke detector’s operation. If the smoke detector is damaged or broken due to tenant actions, a fee will be charged according to the compensation price list. Installing extra smoke detectors in the apartment is not permitted.
Testing and Cleaning the Smoke Detector – Tenant’s Responsibility
The smoke detector must be tested once a month by pressing the test button. The device is operational if it beeps. The detector must also be cleaned at least twice a year by vacuuming away dust. The surface can be wiped with a damp cloth. Detailed cleaning instructions can be found HERE and on the video below.
