TYS apartments’ water consumption per tenant in 2024 reached 149 liters per day. This was the highest recorded consumption and a significant increase from the previous year’s 136 liters per tenant per day. In the annual comparison by the Finnish Student Housing Association (SOA), TYS had the highest water consumption among student housing communities in various cities.
Although water is included in the rent in almost all TYS housing locations, it’s important to remember that water consumption also affects the environment and incurs costs for TYS. Increased water consumption adds pressure for rent increases. The drinkable water from our taps is highly processed. It requires energy for purification, heating, transportation, and wastewater treatment. Therefore, water should be used thoughtfully.
