In the ongoing first phase of construction, 207 new student apartments will be completed in the eastern Student Village.

Turku Student Village Foundation is constructing a new student housing location at Uhrimäenkuja 4, 20540 Turku. Pohjola Rakennus Oy Suomi is the main contractor for the first phase of the project.

The Kylänkulma construction project consists of six residential buildings. Three of these buildings will be constructed during the first phase, which is now ongoing.

The three buildings constructed during the first phase will contain a total of 207 new student apartments:

The location will also include three laundry rooms, three club rooms and two saunas for tenants to use. There will also be storage facilities where tenants of Student Village East can reserve storage units for their personal belongings.

Preparatory construction work began in August 2026, and the main construction work will begin in November 2026. The first phase is scheduled for completion in March 2028.

The normal working hours at the construction site are weekdays from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Noisy work will be carried out on weekdays between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.

Moving around near the construction site

The parking area on Uhrimäenkuja has been closed to residents as of 1st August 2026. The tennis court located along Kuraattorinpolku has also been closed.

The storage units located in the basement of the daycare building on Kuraattorinpolku, which is due to be demolished, will remain available to residents throughout the construction work. However, there may occasionally be restrictions on access to the storage units. Residents will be informed separately about any such restrictions.

Please exercise particular caution when moving around near the construction site and use only the designated routes.

Access to the construction site is strictly prohibited.

When moving around near the construction site, please be aware of trucks and other heavy vehicles operating in the area. Heavy traffic may occasionally make it more difficult to move around. There will be a significant amount of heavy traffic in the area, so we recommend using alternative routes whenever possible and exercising particular caution.

Communication during the construction project and contact information

TYS will send tenants monthly email updates provided by the contractor about the progress of the construction project and upcoming work phases.

Tenants will also be informed separately by email about any work or changes to the construction site arrangements that may cause disruption. These may include, for example, noisy work, water or power outages, changes to routes and prolonged deviations from the normal working hours.

Can I get a rent reduction because of disruption caused by the construction work?

Disruption caused by construction work does not entitle residents to a rent reduction.

 

Can I transfer to another apartment due to disturbance caused by construction work?

Yes, you can. As a general rule, applicants who apply for a transfer due to disturbance caused by construction work are not given priority in the housing application process. However, we will do our best to find the applicant an apartment of a similar standard as quickly as possible.

 

What kind of disruption can the construction work cause?

Construction work may cause various types of disruption to tenants. These may include noise, water or power outages, changes to routes and prolonged deviations from normal working hours.

Tenants will be informed separately by email about work phases and changes to the construction site arrangements that may cause disruption.

 

When will work that causes disruption take place?

The parking area on Uhrimäenkuja is being closed. Can I park in the courtyards instead?

Tenants may only park in designated parking areas.

Please make sure that you have a valid parking right for another parking area in eParking. Parking spaces are reserved through the eParking system.

When can I apply for the new apartments?

You can apply for the new apartments three months before the planned completion of the location.

The construction schedule will become more precise as the project progresses. Information about the start of the apartment application period will be provided well in advance.
