TYS Housing Office will have new opening hours during August – other changes made to services due to the coronavirus epidemic will remain in effect

In August, TYS Housing office will serve tenants with new opening hours. Tenants picking up keys and signing leases can visit the office on weekdays from 9 am to 4 pm, by appointment. Other changes made to TYS’s services remain in effect. We continue to take the coronavirus and its spread seriously and want to protect our customers, employees and partners. We are monitoring the situation and act in accordance with the instructions of the Finnish government and other authorities. Below you will find more information about the changes:

Customer service

In August, TYS Housing office be open to tenants picking up keys and signing leases on weekdays from 9 am to 4 pm, by appointment. Please make an appointment to visit the office by sending an email in advance at In your message, tell us why, on what day and at what time you want to visit the office. Wait for a confirmation message.

Other housing related matters can be handled through our electronic services on the tenant pages, by e-mail, or by calling 02 275 0200 during the office hours.

Saunas, club rooms, laundries and shared kitchens

TYS has opened some of the housing locations saunas for the use of tenants starting from 1st June. Common sauna shifts are not open to tenants at this stage. When using saunas, showers and changing rooms, special attention should be paid to good hand hygiene. Tenants should note that the sauna, shower and changing rooms are not cleaned between sauna shifts but are cleaned once a day from Tuesday to Friday. Detergent and disposable towels/paper have been delivered to the changing rooms, with which tenants can wipe surfaces in the sauna.

Sauna shifts are open for booking in TYSBooking. Saunas and sauna heating times are the same as normal summer heating times. Please note that not all of housing location’s saunas are heated daily, for example some of the saunas are only heated on weekends.

Club rooms in housing locations are also open for to tenants to book. When using club rooms tenants should pay attention to good hand hygiene and follow the restrictions on gatherings set by the Finnish government. Detergent and disposable towels/paper have been delivered to the club rooms, with which the tenant who has made the club room booking must wipe the club room´s surfaces at the end of the booking.

Laundries and shared kitchens remain in the use of the tenant’s and special attention should be paid to good hand hygiene when using the premises. The cleaning of shared kitchens has been increased, but it is the responsibility of each tenant to take care of the cleanliness of the kitchen after use.

Maintenance work and visits

Only the most urgent maintenance work is carried out in the apartments. If you file a fault report, please note that the work may be postponed to a later date. The maintenance company will assess the urgency of the notifications and agree with you on the action to be taken by the notification. Please make sure on your tenant pages that your contact information is up to date, so the maintenance company can be in contact with you. If the fault that requires repair is not urgent, please consider submitting a fault report later.

If you have already filed a fault report and there are a sick, exposed or quarantined person is in the apartment, please cancel the fault report and make a new one when there are no more sick, exposed or quarantined persons in the apartment.¨

Inspections made when moving out

Please contact if you terminated your lease, your apartment has not yet been inspected and there are a sick, exposed or quarantined person is in the apartment.

Moving into/out of an apartment

New tenant receives the keys on the first working day of the month at 12 noon, which is also the official date of the move of the tenant moving out according to the Room Rental Act, i.e. there may be an overlap in the moves. Often, however, the first weekday of the month falls on a week so the previous tenant may have already moved out the previous weekend. If the previous tenant has allowed the transfer of their contact information, you can try to agree with him/her so that there is no overlap in the moves.

Before moving, the tenant moving out must clean the apartment. Cleaning includes e.g. wiping the surfaces of the apartment and cleaning the refrigerator and stove. As the official move-in date of the tenant moving put is the same as the first possible move-in date of the tenant moving in, it is not possible for TYS to clean the apartments separately between moves.

Traveling / Arriving to Finland

Tenants must follow the prevailing travel-related official guidelines and remain in quarantine after arriving to Finland if the official guidelines recommend it. More information on home quarantine for people arriving from different countries can be found here:

Outdoor Sports Facilities

The outdoor sports facilities and equipment in the proximity of TYS’s housing locations will remain open to everyone in accordance with the guidelines of the City of Turku. When using the facilities and equipment safety distances and the restrictions on gatherings set by the Finnish government should be followed. Fitness equipment should be cleaned before use and it may be a good idea to use safe gloves during exercise as a precaution. In order to minimise the risk of infection, it is important that not too many people are exercising in same areas at the same time.

Access to free treatment for COVID-19: Changes to eligibility

The Ministry of Social Affairs and Health has modified its guidance on access to free medical treatment for COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus. Under the new guidance, treatment is provided free of charge to travellers and to registered residents of a Finnish municipality. Treatment is also available at no cost to persons who qualify for a Kela certificate on entitlement to medical care. To everyone else, treatment for COVID-19, like other medical care, is available for a fee. The new guidance is effective since 11 May 2020. Read more:

How do you protect yourself and others from infection?

 You can reduce your own and other people’s infection risk by maintaining good hand hygiene and following the coughing etiquette.

  • Wash your hands with water and soap for at least 20 seconds. You should wash your hands especially when you come in from outside, after going to the toilet and after blowing your nose, coughing or sneezing.
  • If water and soap are not available, use alcohol-based or other hand rinse approved by the chemical authority.
  • Do not touch your eyes, nose or mouth unless you have just washed your hands.
  • Cover your mouth and nose with a disposable tissue when coughing or sneezing. Immediately put the used handkerchief in the rubbish bin.
  • If you do not have a handkerchief, cough or sneeze into your upper sleeve not into your hands.
  • Change hand towels often at home and use disposable towels in public facilities.

Reducing close contact is now also important for healthy people, as this slows down the spread of the  epidemic.

  • When you are outdoors, stay at least one meter away from others.
  • Avoid shaking hands.
