TUAS – Support for Young People Becoming Independent

Tukenasi ry’s TUAS programme (Support for Independent Living) provides support for young people aged 18–25 who are in the process of becoming independent through a voluntary support person programme. Young people can be referred to the programme from the age of 17. Programmes are in Finnish.

Through the programme, each young person is matched with a volunteer support person for a fixed-term support relationship. The young person and the volunteer meet 2–4 times a month as part of the young person’s everyday life. Support relationships last 3–18 months.

During the support period, the young person can receive help with, for example, managing finances and budgeting, household tasks, learning to cook, studies, or finding meaningful ways to spend their free time. The opportunity to talk and receive emotional support from the volunteer is also an important part of the support relationship. The service is free of charge.
