The staff of Turku Student Village Foundation (TYS) got together at Turku Castle for an organisation-wide TYKY day in mid-November. The group started their morning with a breakfast at Lords’ Cellar, after which it was time for a guided tour of the castle to hear stories of crime, punishment and imprisonment. The group learned about how Jaakko Ilkka, leader of a great Finnish peasant rebellion called the “Cudgel War”, managed to escape from the castle prison during the war, about how guests at the banquet hall were always seated with their backs against the wall, and how forms of punishment had changed over the years.
Following the tour, Work Psychologist Sari Rothberg from healthcare service company Terveystalo held a team training session, inviting everyone to have a think about different personality traits – their own and those of others in the work community. During the session, they also got to discuss and suggest concrete ways to ensure good communication in a diverse work community.
