TYS has acquired a carbon neutral waste management service for all its housing locations. Carbon neutral waste management means that Lassila&Tikanoja who is responsible for TYS´s housing locations waste disposal calculates the greenhouse gas emissions from the transportation and treatment of waste from all TYS housing locations and offsets the measured emissions. Offsetting is achieved by sequestering the equivalent amount of carbon in the atmosphere through certified Gold Standard afforestation projects. In addition to carbon sequestering, the projects also contribute to other sustainable development objectives. The projects, for example, support local employment and strengthen biodiversity.
