Turku Student Village Foundation´s (TYS) Kylänkulma project, located in the eastern part of the Turku Student Village along Halistentie is moving forward. On June 4th, 2025, the Turku Urban Environment Committee approved TYS’s application for a zoning deviation.

“The first construction phase of the project includes three residential apartment buildings with over 200 apartments. We are now able to move forward to the next phases of the project, including further planning, competitive bidding for contractor, continuing financing arrangements, and making the final investment decision,” explains Anssi Aalto, TYS’s Real Estate Manager.

Kylänkulma will consist of five five-story residential buildings and one four-story building. The project comprises a total of over 350 new student apartments in two different construction phases, and it is intended to be implemented as a state-subsidized interest-supported project.

Demand for student housing in Turku has grown in recent years and is expected to continue increasing. The Kylänkulma construction project enables the creation of more high-quality, affordable student housing in a prime location near the university campus.

“The deviation permit significantly facilitates the implementation of Kylänkulma, which could pave the way for continuing TYS’s student housing development. The plans have had to be revised especially to manage costs, and due to tightened government interest subsidy regulations and the practical elimination of investment support for student housing construction. The need and demand are definitely there,” says TYS´s CEO Risto Siilos.
