Moving forward, all parking areas of the Turku Student Village Foundation (TYS) housing locations will require a parking permit via the eParking application. You can apply for a parking permit starting from early February. However, the parking control will start monitoring the permits only later in the spring.
A parking permit has already been required at the parking areas of Aitiopaikka, Ikituuri, Nummenranta, Student Village West and Yo-talot for a while. In these areas the parking control is also already in effect. With this change we aim to ensure that the parking spaces of the housing locations are always firstly available to our tenants.
If I have a car, what should I do?
Each tenant will be able to apply for a parking permit to their housing location via the eParking app starting from 1 February 2024. Tenants living together can each apply for separate parking permits. Your application will be processed within 1–5 business days.
The parking permit does not ensure that a parking space will be kept empty for you, but the permit gives you the right to park in the parking area of your housing location (except for the paid personal parking spaces with heating poles).
After the permit has been granted, you need to enter the registration number of the vehicle you wish to park in the eParking app. Your permit can be active for one registration number at a time, but you can still enter multiple registration numbers under one permit and switch between them. When parking, make sure that the registration number of the car being parked is active in the app.
You can download the eParking app from Google Play or the App Store. You can find the instructions for using the app on eparking.fi.
- Install the app.
- Open the app and locate your housing location on the map.
- Press the lock-symbol and choose “Turun Ylioppilaskyläsäätiö” from the drop menu.
- Press “Jatka” and choose your housing location from the dropdown list.
- Send the application. Your tenant status with TYS is checked by eParking within 1-5 business days.
- Add your registration number under the permit, after your application has been accepted.
How and since when are parking permits controlled?
The monitoring of parking permits will start later in the spring. We will inform tenants about the beginning of parking control well in advance. However, we recommend applying for the parking permit as soon as possible so that you do not forget about it.
A parking permit has already been required at the parking areas of Aitiopaikka, Ikituuri, Nummenranta, Student Village West and Yo-talot for a while, so the permits already controlled in these areas.
Which parking areas are affected by the changes?
Moving forward, the parking areas of TYS housing locations will require the parking permit. However, many of our housing locations are close to streetside parking and parking areas controlled by other operators. Parking in these areas will continue without changes.
Some popular parking areas not affected by the changes include the streetside parking on Kuraattorinpolku street in Student Village East and the arched parking area in the junction of Nummenpuistokatu and Urho Kulovaaran katu streets. These areas will continue to be available to our tenants and their guests like before.
If you are unsure whether a TYS parking permit is required in a certain parking area, you can check this from the eParking app. The areas that require a TYS parking permit are shown on the map in the app.
No changes to rented parking spaces
The renting of parking spaces will continue as normal via the eParking app. If you so wish, you can apply for a parking permit to the regular parking spaces (“kylmäpaikka) at your housing location, even if you have reserved your own parking space with a heating pole.
So for example, a two-tenant household may have access to two rented parking spaces and still apply for two parking permits that allow them use the regular parking spaces in the parking area of their housing location as well.
Where can guests park?
Guests may park in streetside parking spaces and the dedicated guest parking spots available at Kiertotähti, Tavasti and the Student Village. It’s also possible to apply for a parking permit to your housing location and input the registration number of your guest’s car. However, please note that the parking permit may only be active for one registration number at a time.
Please consider that when applying for a parking permit for the first time, the processing may 1-5 business days. Once you have been granted a parking permit, you can add registration numbers and switch between them without delay.
If you have a recurring need for guest parking, you can rent a parking space with a heating space for your car. This way, you can keep your guest’s registration number active in your parking permit, so they can use the regular parking spaces at your housing location. If you believe that your housing location should have more dedicated guest parking, please contact your local tenant committee.
