Where and when to get tested?

If you get any symptoms or have been exposed to the coronavirus, it is important to get tested. You do not always get symptoms even though you have coronavirus.

You can be tested without a Finnish social security number at

  • Halinen, Huudi (address Gregorius IX:n tie 8)
    Mon–Fri 9.00–11.00
  • Perno, sand field located opposite Höveli (address Hyrköistentie 26)
    Mon–Fri 12.00–14.00
  • Varissuo behind the hamburger restaurant, next to Varissuo ice hall entrance ramp (address Tiirikkalankatu)
    Mon–Fri 12.15–14.15 pm

If you don’t have a Finnish social security number, they will make you a temporary one that makes it possible to register you into the health care system. You need to bring your ID card with you.

Those who have a Finnish social security number can make an appointment to get tested in www.Omaolo.fi.

May I leave my apartment for a corona test?

Yes, that is allowed, even when you are in quarantine.

What is the difference between self-quarantine, quarantine, and isolation?

You must stay in self-quarantine if you have been in contact with someone who has been tested positive for coronavirus, has been ordered to stay in quarantine or you get symptoms of coronavirus. You should get tested and stay in self-quarantine until you get results from the test. If the test is negative, you don´t have to stay in self-quarantine anymore. If your test is positive, you will get further instructions from healthcare.

The quarantine or isolation is a doctor’s order and you must follow the orders given to you by healthcare on quarantine or isolation.

Can I visit someone on my house/floor when I´m in self-quarantine/quarantine/isolation?

When you are in self-quarantine or have been ordered into quarantine/isolation, you must stay at your room. Visiting anyone, even others who are in quarantine or isolation, is strictly forbidden.

Can I invite someone over when I´m in self-quarantine/quarantine/isolation?

Inviting anyone over, even others who are in quarantine or isolation, is strictly forbidden.

Can I go outside when I´m in self-quarantine/quarantine/isolation?

When you are in self-quarantine or have been ordered into quarantine/isolation, you must stay at your room. The quarantine or isolation is a doctor’s order which you must obey and stay home, in your own room and avoid others. It is a crime to break the quarantine/isolation and you can receive a fine if doing so.

Visiting anyone or inviting anyone over, even others who are in quarantine or isolation, is strictly forbidden.

Can I use the laundry or shared kitchen in self-quarantine/quarantine/isolation?

When you are in self-quarantine or have been ordered into quarantine/isolation, you must stay at your room. You should move outside of your room only when it is absolutely necessary. You can use the shared kitchen and the laundry, but we strongly advice you to avoid using shared spaces. Use a face mask when you move outside your room and keep a 2-meter safety distance to others. Always use hand sanitizer when leaving and entering your room, laundry or shared kitchen. If you must use shared spaces, you should do it when no one else is using the space. This way, we can minimise the risk of infected persons spreading coronavirus.

You must leave the shared kitchen after cooking and eat in your own apartment.

If you must leave your house to go to the laundry, you can only use your own houses stairwell when going outside. You should leave the laundry while washing the laundry and pick up the laundry from the laundry when they are ready.

Gathering into shared spaces even with others who are in quarantine or isolation is strictly forbidden.

How can you take out the garbage if not allowed to go out at all?

Garbage can be taken out during quarantine. However, it is not recommended that you do this yourself if there is someone else who can help you with it without being in contact with you. In shared kitchens the cleaning will take the garbage out from the shared kitchen.

What can I do if I see people who do not follow the quarantine or isolation rules?

You can always call 112 (emergency number) and explain the situation to them. A police patrol will be sent to check the situation and they will explain the importance of following the instructions regarding coronavirus and possible quarantine/isolation.

Can empty apartments be organised for those who wish to avoid students who have tested positive?

Unfortunately this is not possible. If you are living with others, remember to take good care of hand hygiene and safe distances. Always put a mask on and disinfect your hands when leaving your room.

Can I terminate my contract due to corona?

Contracts for fixed term cannot be terminated earlier.

I have questions regarding quarantine.
