May I leave my apartment for a corona test?
Yes, that is allowed, even when you are in quarantine.
What is the difference between self-quarantine, quarantine, and isolation?
You must stay in self-quarantine if you have been in contact with someone who has been tested positive for coronavirus, has been ordered to stay in quarantine or you get symptoms of coronavirus. You should get tested and stay in self-quarantine until you get results from the test. If the test is negative, you don´t have to stay in self-quarantine anymore. If your test is positive, you will get further instructions from healthcare.
The quarantine or isolation is a doctor’s order and you must follow the orders given to you by healthcare on quarantine or isolation.
Can I visit someone on my house/floor when I´m in self-quarantine/quarantine/isolation?
When you are in self-quarantine or have been ordered into quarantine/isolation, you must stay at your room. Visiting anyone, even others who are in quarantine or isolation, is strictly forbidden.
Can I invite someone over when I´m in self-quarantine/quarantine/isolation?

Can I go outside when I´m in self-quarantine/quarantine/isolation?
When you are in self-quarantine or have been ordered into quarantine/isolation, you must stay at your room. The quarantine or isolation is a doctor’s order which you must obey and stay home, in your own room and avoid others. It is a crime to break the quarantine/isolation and you can receive a fine if doing so.
Visiting anyone or inviting anyone over, even others who are in quarantine or isolation, is strictly forbidden.
Can I use the laundry or shared kitchen in self-quarantine/quarantine/isolation?
When you are in self-quarantine or have been ordered into quarantine/isolation, you must stay at your room. You should move outside of your room only when it is absolutely necessary. You can use the shared kitchen and the laundry, but we strongly advice you to avoid using shared spaces. Use a face mask when you move outside your room and keep a 2-meter safety distance to others. Always use hand sanitizer when leaving and entering your room, laundry or shared kitchen. If you must use shared spaces, you should do it when no one else is using the space. This way, we can minimise the risk of infected persons spreading coronavirus.
You must leave the shared kitchen after cooking and eat in your own apartment.
If you must leave your house to go to the laundry, you can only use your own houses stairwell when going outside. You should leave the laundry while washing the laundry and pick up the laundry from the laundry when they are ready.
Gathering into shared spaces even with others who are in quarantine or isolation is strictly forbidden.
How can you take out the garbage if not allowed to go out at all?
Garbage can be taken out during quarantine. However, it is not recommended that you do this yourself if there is someone else who can help you with it without being in contact with you. In shared kitchens the cleaning will take the garbage out from the shared kitchen.
How can I get food/other supplies when I´m in self-quarantine/quarantine/isolation?
Exchange students ordered to stay in quarantine or in isolation have been contacted via email and food aid has been arranged for them. Other students in self-quarantine, quarantine or isolation should try to get food supplies by ordering them from the stores or asking help from acquaintances. If neither of these is possible you can contact social emergency services 24/7 (+358 2 262 6003), where the situation is assessed and, if necessary, acute food aid is provided.
If you have questions regarding food aid arranged for exchange students, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org by e-mail.
What can I do if I see people who do not follow the quarantine or isolation rules?
You can always call 112 (emergency number) and explain the situation to them. A police patrol will be sent to check the situation and they will explain the importance of following the instructions regarding coronavirus and possible quarantine/isolation.
Can empty apartments be organised for those who wish to avoid students who have tested positive?
Unfortunately this is not possible. If you are living with others, remember to take good care of hand hygiene and safe distances. Always put a mask on and disinfect your hands when leaving your room.
Can I terminate my contract due to corona?
Contracts for fixed term cannot be terminated earlier.
How long are the quarantine and isolation times for the coronavirus?
If you have been ordered to stay in quarantine the quarantine is 14 days or more. If you have been ordered to stay in quarantine and get a negative test result, the quarantine is still the same 14 days.
If you get a positive test result, the isolation is 10 days.
The quarantine is a doctor’s order which you must obey and stay home and avoid others. It is a crime to break the quarantine/isolation and you can receive a fine if doing so.
When does the quarantine start?
The quarantine of 14 days starts from the last contact you have had with the person who has tested positive.
How long do I need to wait for the call if I have been exposed?
Unfortunately, there are so many people who have tested positive or have been exposed at the moment in Turku that contact tracing will take several days. The authorities will try to reach everyone as soon as possible. Remember to keep your phone on, so that the authorities can reach you.
Can my quarantine end sooner if I receive a negative test result during it?
No. If you get tested and receive a negative test result during your quarantine, the quarantine still continues and lasts 14 days. This is important! The incubation period for the coronavirus is 1–14 days, therefore you can get a negative test on the 5th quarantine day but test positive later. You cannot shorten an isolation with a negative test result either.
If I test negative, but others in my room or floor have tested positive, can I go to the store?
No. If you have been exposed to the coronavirus and ordered to stay in quarantine, you must stay home in quarantine for 14 days.
Do I need to get retested?
You will get retested at the end of your quarantine or isolation. Nurses will call you during the quarantine or isolation with further instructions. The test is very important and everyone must get tested two times during quarantine.
Should I get tested if I have been exposed but do not have any symptoms?
It is important that everyone who has been exposed gets tested. This way, we can break the chain of infections sooner.
