The victory in TYS’s gingerbread competition was claimed by a magnificent gingerbread creation depicting Ikituuri.
The winner was chosen through a vote in which TYS tenants selected their favorite gingerbread work from nine entries. A total of 392 votes were cast in the competition, of which the winner received 109 votes, i.e. approximately 28% of all votes. The winner will receive a gift basket worth €99 as the prize.
This year’s competition theme was TYS’s housing locations and the tenants’ favorite buildings, places, and views found within them.
Winner: Ikituuri
Here is how the creator describes their gingerbread creation:
I wanted to build Ikituuri in all its glory, including the rooftop terrace.

Aitiopaikka and Student Village
Here is how the creator describes their gingerbread creation:
Together with my boyfriend, we created a collection of gingerbread pieces that remind us of Aitiopaikka and Student Village. The collection includes warm Christmas lights on the balconies of Aitiopaikka and, overall, a lovely Christmas atmosphere. The collection also features gingerbread inspired by internationality, such as a “God Jul” gingerbread cookie and an Italian flag cookie. Even the gentle female cashier at the student restaurant Block got her own gingerbread figure. In addition, the collection includes the many wonderful dog owners we see every day, as well as the warmth and kindness found in Student Village. 🙂
Kiertotähti
Here is how the creator describes their gingerbread creation:
I chose this because it is my own home.
Pilvilinna
Here is how the creator describes their gingerbread creation:
The piece depicts Pilvilinna’s own box garden, where vegetables, flowers, and community spirit all grow together. The garden is important to us residents, and home-grown vegetables are true everyday gourmet. And of course, behind the box garden stands Pilvilinna.
Tyyssija 1
Here is how the creator describes their gingerbread creation:
Here is my own version of my home, Tyyssija. I suppose I don’t need to justify choosing it any further, although the round, well, almost oval, shape of the building certainly inspired me to try making the house. In the end, I managed to bend the side pieces right after baking using a mold I built.
- Some small details from Tyyssija:
- Solar panels on the roof (of course)
- Marked stairwells in the courtyard (A, B, C, D)
- Kylänvalinta (with orange candies)
- Campus Sport (with red candies)
- Block (with green candies)
Tyyssija 2
Here is how the creator describes their gingerbread creation:
My gingerbread house represents Tyyssija, and I chose it because Tyyssija is a fine and modern building, and I wanted to try constructing a more challenging gingerbread house.
Student Village and Community
Here is how the creator describes their gingerbread creation:
My friends and I had our own gingerbread-building activity for Pikkujoulu and decided to share it for the competition. Our creation represents a feature of Yo-Kylä that isn’t always visible at first glance: community.
For many of us, living far from our families can be challenging, but Yo-Kylä has shown us that we’re never truly alone. Here, we’ve found friends who feel like family, people who offer kindness, share moments of joy, and make everyday life warmer. That sense of belonging, of being welcomed and supported, is the real hidden gem of this place.
To express that feeling, we built two gingerbread houses and combined them with small decorative pieces to create a tiny, cosy town, a symbol of the homelike community Yo-Kylä has become for us. Our little gingerbread village reflects the friendships, warmth, and togetherness that make this location so special.
Yo-talo B
Here is how the creator describes their gingerbread creation:
In the gingerbread artwork, Yo-talo B has been transformed into a Christmas world where students celebrate with Santa Claus. The facilities and yard of Yo-talot are familiar to many students, and they gather there daily to eat, celebrate, or just spend time together. Yo-talo B is also my own home! I hope this piece brings Christmas joy to fellow students and to those living in TYS housing!
Yo-talot
Here is how the creator describes their gingerbread creation:
I live in a YO-talot, so I made a gingerbread creation of the entire building, including Assarin Ullakko, the TYY facilities, and the old swimming hall. Almost everything you need can be found in these buildings.
