TYS’s partners: Alltime keeps TYS housing locations’ common areas clean

TYS partner Alltime Oy is responsible for cleaning the common areas in nearly all TYS housing locations. A team of twelve people takes care of cleaning stairwells, corridors, shared kitchens, sauna facilities, club rooms, laundries, public toilets, and elevators. However, pleasant and tidy common areas are created through cooperation between the cleaning company and tenants, where tenants’ own actions also play an important role.

Clean common areas improve living comfort

Alltime is responsible for keeping the common areas clean in a total of sixteen TYS housing locations. There is a large amount of space to clean.

“We clean students’ shared facilities daily, such as stairwells, corridors, shared kitchens, sauna areas, club rooms, laundries, public toilets, and elevators,” says Jonna Rantanen, Service Supervisor at Alltime Oy.

In addition to Rantanen, 11 employees and one itinerant cleaner work at TYS locations. During the summer, the team is also supported by seasonal workers.

Clean common areas are an important part of comfortable living. Tidy corridors, laundries, and shared kitchens make living more pleasant for all tenants and help keep shared spaces safe and functional.

Tenants also play a role in cleanliness

Although student housing locations do not differ significantly from other properties from a cleaning perspective, one thing makes TYS special.

“Shared kitchens are not found elsewhere in the same way,” Rantanen explains.

The cleanliness of shared kitchens is an area where tenants’ own actions have a major impact. Alltime takes care of cleaning floors and surfaces in shared kitchens, which are cleaned weekly. According to Rantanen, it would be most helpful if surfaces were as clear as possible of tenants’ dishes and belongings when the cleaners arrive, and if waste had been sorted properly.

“It helps the cleaner in all spaces, not just shared kitchens, when tenants clean up after themselves and also take responsibility for tidiness. In certain spaces, you can clearly see where tenants take good care of shared areas, and that also feels rewarding for the cleaners. Thank you to the tenants for that,” says Rantanen.

According to Rantanen, TYS tenants are generally polite, pleasant, and cheerful, which also makes the work meaningful for cleaners.

Technology supports cleaning work

Technology is also used to support cleaning. At the Aitiopaikka location, a robot vacuum cleaner helps with vacuuming the long corridors.

“There are many corridors, so the robot works as a great helper and cleaning companion,” Rantanen describes.

The vacuum cleans corridors at Aitiopaikka about once a month. Tenants have also reacted positively to the robot vacuum, and it has attracted interest at the location.

“Technology especially helps with maintaining large locations and frees up cleaners’ time for other cleaning tasks,” Rantanen adds.
