The Turku Student Village Foundation (TYS) was established by the Student Union of the University of Turku on 1st December 1966, to meet the need for affordable housing for the growing number of students in Turku. For six decades, TYS has rented high-quality and reasonably priced homes to students, providing housing where everyday student life runs smoothly.
Over the decades, TYS has offered, and continues to offer, its tenants much more than just an apartment. Our customer service and diverse additional housing services support students in building their everyday lives. We want every tenant to have a safe and functional home where they can focus on their studies, managing daily life, and building their future.
However, TYS is not just about walls and square meters. Over the past sixty years, students have studied and graduated in TYS apartments, but they have also lived their student lives there. Laundry has been washed in the laundries, meals cooked in shared kitchens, and evenings spent together. There have been pre-parties and after-parties, relaxing sauna shifts, and participation in tenant committees. For many, a lifelong friend, or perhaps even a life partner, has been found among the neighbors.
Without tenants, there would be no TYS. That is why enabling a good, smooth, and communal everyday life is extremely important to us.
