Apartments are renovated regularly between tenancy agreements as needed, while the residential buildings themselves are also carefully maintained through various maintenance, repair, and development projects. Several repair and renovation projects have recently been completed or are currently underway in Student Village. Playgrounds, Barbecue Areas, and Saunas Getting Upgraded
Shared spaces and outdoor areas are an important part of everyday life and community spirit in Student Village. During summer 2026, playgrounds and barbecue areas will undergo maintenance and renovation work, which will also continue in 2027. This helps keep the shared outdoor areas safe and pleasant both for children’s play and shared barbecue moments.
Saunas are also maintained through annual maintenance and renovated when necessary. For example, the renovation of the popular sauna in Yo-kylä 10 A was completed in time for May Day.

Safety on Student Village pathways has been improved by installing traffic barriers and speed bumps, helping to reduce driving speeds and improve safety especially for pedestrians and cyclists.
On the eastern side of Student Village, additional attention has also been paid to the cleanliness of outdoor areas, and smaller waste bins have been rearranged along pedestrian routes.
Fully Renovated Apartments in the Renovation of Student Village I Block
At the beginning of 2026, the renovation of Student Village I Block began. The project includes a complete renovation of the block’s four buildings (Yo-kylä 1 A–D). All building systems and apartment interior surfaces are being renewed.

A total of 144 apartments will undergo a thorough renovation. In the future, every apartment will have its own kitchen. Previously, tenants had small cooking facilities in their apartments and access to a separate shared kitchen. Shared kitchens will now be converted into new apartments and shared study spaces. Laundry facilities will also be renovated and appliances renewed.
The renovation strongly focuses on energy efficiency and living comfort. Water and heating systems are being renewed and updated, apartment-specific water and electricity meters are being installed, and the apartments will receive individual ventilation systems with heat recovery. Waste sorting will also become easier, as apartments will be equipped with pull-out cabinets for four waste bins.
The renovation is currently underway in buildings A and B, which will be completed by August. After that, the work will continue in buildings C and D, scheduled for completion around the turn of the year 2026–2027.
Student Village Is Well Maintained
In addition to large-scale renovations, various repair and maintenance works are continuously carried out in Student Village.

Currently, a roof renovation project is underway in blocks 11 and 13 on the western side, where the roofs of all eight buildings are being renewed. In recent years, foundation reinforcement work has also been carried out on the western side, and piling work is currently underway at Yo-kylä 13 B. In addition, exterior entrance stairs have been repaired to improve both safety and usability. Earlier this year, the exterior doors of apartments located along cold-access balconies were renewed.
On the eastern side, maintenance work is being carried out on the intermediate doors of access balconies, while locks are being renewed and upgraded to improve safety and smooth everyday living.
Heating systems are also improved annually in all Student Village buildings to increase energy efficiency. During 2026, the telecommunications connections in Eastern Student Village in particular will be upgraded to better meet the needs of modern studying and everyday life.
