Before the project is finished, and before the 186 new apartments with climate-friendly housing solutions and the comprehensive services planned for this new heart of the Student Village are completed, there are still several construction stages ahead.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_18371\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-18371\" class=\"wp-image-18371 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/tys.fi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/MG_5514-300x291.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"291\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tys.fi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/MG_5514-300x291.jpg 300w, https:\/\/tys.fi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/MG_5514-1024x993.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/tys.fi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/MG_5514-768x745.jpg 768w, https:\/\/tys.fi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/MG_5514.jpg 1106w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-18371\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">\u201dUp until now, we haven\u2019t found any surprises in the soil layers&#8221;, says the site\u2019s Production Engineer and contact person Vesa Sainio from Peab Oy.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>During the next few months, earthworks and pile-driving will be carried out at the worksite. Before starting the work, the site had to be prepared for the process.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe started the work by setting up fences around the worksite, and the asphalt in the parking area at the other end of the site was removed. We have also made arrangements for the worksite office, which will be located at Yo-kyl\u00e4 5C,\u201d says the site\u2019s Production Engineer and contact person Vesa Sainio from Peab Oy.<\/p>\n<p>During the coming weeks, a massive amount of soil will be removed from the worksite before the actual piling work can be started. The earthworks may also unearth some \u201chistory\u201d. For example, the swimming pool of the old Ikituuri holiday centre is located underneath the parking area, and its concrete structures may be discovered during the earthworks.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUp until now, we haven\u2019t found any surprises in the soil layers. Just a few old district heating pipes, which were quite big, and other outdated infrastructure no longer in use as well as construction waste. During the coming weeks, a massive amount of soil will be removed from the worksite.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The earthworks will result in about 5-meter deep pit, intended for the future population shelter, where beds of crushed stone for the piling machines will first be prepared, and then, later in spring, the piling work of the future building will be started.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBefore starting the actual pile-driving, we will carry out test pilings in the site on weeks 17 and 18, where we will review the carrying capacity and permeability of the rock matter in the soil under the different parts of the future building. These are necessary for achieving the planned pile height and sufficient structural carrying capacity. During the actual piling stage, we will drive about 600 steel and concrete piles into the soil, to a depth of about 25\u201335 metres. In the background, the first test piles are laid to the groud.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>During the coming weeks, a steel sheet pile wall will be built along the site\u2019s border on Inspehtorinkatu\u2019s side to support the street area in use, and the rest of the old office building\u2019s structures will be removed. If necessary, pedestrians and cyclists will be temporarily guided to take a detour around the site.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe may have to cut off traffic on Inspehtorinkatu and, and there will be temporary special traffic arrangements during the different construction stages. Heavy transports, such as construction element and crane deliveries, require special attention and space to operate. At the moment, the earthworks cause heavy truck traffic on Inspehtorinkatu.
