I didn\u2019t even have the chance to give the corny toast I planned during the six years I spent at the speech club.<br \/>\nI wasn\u2019t there either to see my parent\u2019s face when my sister told them she was expecting her second -and probably last- grandchild, or the Christmas my entire family got to write their names in a tablecloth to remember who was there -and who wasn\u2019t-, and I pray I can be there when my grandmas decide they have seen it all.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-14353 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/tys.fi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/Second-200x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tys.fi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/Second-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/tys.fi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/Second-768x1152.jpg 768w, https:\/\/tys.fi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/Second-683x1024.jpg 683w, https:\/\/tys.fi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/Second.jpg 1365w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/>My friends often tell me I\u2019m lucky, and even though I also think I\u2019m blessed, the wanderers have a price to pay: not being home when everyone else is.<\/p>\n<p>This -somehow selfish- thought used to bring me down from time to time, until something amazing happened: My friends\u2019 birthday celebrations.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m not talking about the friends back home, I\u2019m talking about the great people I\u2019ve met in Finland.<br \/>\nTheir birthdays started coming and the more I thought about it, the happier I felt.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Why?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Most of them are international students, and have come a long way -just like me- to be here in this time of life. The probabilities of getting to know each other were basically zero, and still, for some reason, we all traveled miles and miles, just to concur at this stage of our lives.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-14356 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/tys.fi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/Third-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tys.fi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/Third-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/tys.fi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/Third-768x513.jpg 768w, https:\/\/tys.fi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/Third-1024x684.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/tys.fi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/Third-900x600.jpg 900w, https:\/\/tys.fi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/Third.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>If I think about time, I\u2019ll probably only be with them in one, probably two occasions to celebrate their birthday. This little time frame to celebrate their existence has a big responsibility: to show them how much I value the brave decisions they took, everything they left behind and all the nights they slept on the floor, pursuing a dream.<\/p>\n<p>Because I\u2019m not where I was born, and life goes on for the people back home, family and friends\u2026 But mostly, because life goes on where my feet are currently planted, and the people I\u2019ve met have become family: grateful.
